Is your Orange County landscaping people AND pet-friendly?
It can be tough to reach a happy medium between a look that you like and a backyard that is easy to maintain with pets. Since your pets may spend much of their lives outside, it’s important to have space where they can be comfortable without creating havoc in your outdoor living space.
When determining how best to accommodate your pet into your Orange County landscaping, it’s helpful to consider current habits, if re-training is not an option.
Does your dog like to dig or run in circles in certain areas of your yard?
Perhaps your pet seeks out shade or enjoys sunbathing?
Maybe you have a small dog that loves to swim but can’t get out of the pool easily?
As you plan out your landscape design, these patterns are essential to creating a space that works for you and your pet. For instance if you dog is digging to try to establish a cool place to rest, then adding some trees, a patio, or even a doghouse to your landscaping may fulfill this need. If the digging is related to searching for items buried deep in the earth, then it’s more than likely you will need to set aside an area for your dog to bury treasure and/or establish some boundaries.
If your dog’s exercise routine creates well-worn areas throughout your outdoor living space, it may be time to break up the track with well-established shrubbery or a change in your ground surface. Concrete and travertine are much harder to wear down than dirt and grass. If your dog gets stuck in your pool, it can be helpful to design shallow reef steps in the pool so that your pet can get out of the pool easier if they fall in or go for a few unsupervised laps!
